Board of Trustees

Mission Minded Leadership

The Board of Trustees serves as the steward of The Bush School’s mission and long-term well-being. Trustees are responsible for advancing the school’s purpose and ensuring that Bush remains a vibrant, mission-driven institution for generations to come. In all of its work, the Board keeps the mission as the foundation for major decisions, offering time, effort, knowledge, and judgment in support of the school’s continued growth and success. Through their service, Trustees contribute to the advancement of the school, deepen their engagement with the Bush community, and have the opportunity to grow personally and professionally.

The Board of Trustees is a volunteer governing body with four principal responsibilities:

  • Organizing and managing itself so as to fulfill its duties to the school.
  • Planning for the future, establishing policy, and assessing the school’s performance
  • Overseeing the school's financial condition and physical plant.
  • Selecting and working cooperatively with the head of school.
It's heartening that Bush's core mission has remained consistent for over 100 years. We teach students to think critically, act deliberately, and lead with purpose. As we look to the future, I'm excited that we've just established an ambitious but achievable Strategic Plan that reflects the aspirations of our community, at the same time as we are transforming our physical campus in a way that maintains the inclusivity and camaraderie that are essential to Bush. I have a ton of confidence in our Head of School, Sarah Smith, and our collective team to keep pushing towards this vision while embracing the opportunities ahead.
