Discover Bush Music
Bush Music provides the intuition and skills to communicate through the language of music, empowering students to take ownership of creating music. Through this rich program, student musicians are encouraged to see themselves as instrumentalist, vocalists, performers, and musical thinkers.
By honing their skills, students discover strengths where they didn’t know they existed. Together, they build their imagination, collaboration, problem-solving, and connection skills and unleash their inner musician.

We believe Bush offers amazing programs and teachers in each division. With new programs like jazz band, we aim to involve more students and eventually grow our music programs to match those of larger peer schools.

Bush Music Highlights
Lower School Music
In Lower School Music, every student is empowered to discover and cultivate their own musicality. Through active music-making, students build a strong foundation as ensemble players, choral singers, composers, and performers, developing musical intuition and an appreciation of a wide range of musical styles and traditions. Classes utilize a fun, hands-on approach, incorporating movement, games, listening activities, and small-group projects.

Middle School Music
Middle School music students experience, perform, respond to, and connect to music using their voice and musical instruments. Students develop their music skills annually through basic music theory, original composition, sight reading, exploration of digital audio workstations, live improvisation, and solo and group ensemble performances.

Upper School students engage with a diverse range of music styles and genres both in the classroom and on stage. From studying film music or the robust traditions of music in the Pacific Northwest, to producing original compositions or advancing performance skills on a wide range of instruments, students are encouraged to explore their own curiosities and grow into more well-rounded musicians. Emphasis is placed on the importance of building strong group dynamics and how these apply to both the creative process and performance. Numerous opportunities are provided for students to showcase their work, including twice a year in a culminating performance called The Venue, as well as two Upper School Music Showcases.
