Community, Equity, and Inclusion Parent Education Session - Thursday, October 10
We are excited to be working with KRT Consulting (see biographies below) to advance Community, Equity, and Inclusion (CEI) work with our faculty, staff, students, and parents and guardians this year.
Throughout the year, our CEI work will focus on three goals – Embracing Vulnerability, Increasing Confidence and Skills, and Centering Recovery and Repair.
KRT's first parent workshop entitled Supporting Your Child's Identity Journey will take place on Thursday, October 10 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Community Room.
Session Description:
As children grow, they begin to notice differences and form their own sense of identity. How do these identities develop, and what role do privilege and marginalization play in that process? This workshop will explore when children start noticing differences, how their understanding changes as they move through early childhood, lower school, middle school, and high school, and what parents can do to support them at each stage. We'll share practical tips on how to raise kids who feel confident in who they are and who can understand and appreciate the differences in others. Join us to learn how you can help your child navigate their identity journey with care and intention.

Facilitator Biographies:
- Kawai Lai (Myles L. ‘34) served as the Vice President of Innovation at the NAIS and founding team member at Education Elements. Prior to a career in education, Kawai spent about a decade with Deloitte Consulting focused on change management and strategic technology implementations.
- Tamisha Williams is a certified executive and personal coach with over 10 years of experience in education, including 8 years as a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practitioner. She has spoken at 50+ schools and organizations on equity-centered leadership.
- Rosetta Lee has been a diversity speaker and trainer on a variety of topics, including cross cultural communication, identity development, implicit and unconscious bias, gender and sexuality diversity, and bullying in schools. She has worked with over 350 K-12 schools throughout the country, along with over 100 colleges and universities, nonprofits, businesses, and more.
