Save the Date for Illuminate | A Celebration of Light Across Cultures - Tuesday, December 9

This winter, our K–12 community is gathering for Illuminate - an event to honor the many ways cultures celebrate light during the darkest days of the year. From lanterns to luminaries, song to story, we’ll explore how light invites warmth, connection, and hope.

Illuminate | A Celebration of Light Across Cultures
Date: Tuesday, December 9
Time: 4:00–6:30 p.m.
Location: Mag Gym (entrance through the Lower School Campus gate)

What to expect
  • Hands-on “makerspace” stations: Create simple take-home projects - paper lanterns, star parols, luminarias with LED tea lights, shadow-art, and more.
  • Student and family-led sharing: Short pop-up demos, stories, and displays from Bush families and affinity/interest groups.
  • Community “lights-on” moment: We’ll close with a brief, joyful illumination together.
What is a makerspace at Bush?
A makerspace is a shared, family-friendly area where we learn by doing: designing, building, and creating with guidance from peers. At Illuminate, the makerspace is where members of our community can host a simple station and teach others how to make something meaningful to them. No fancy equipment needed, just curiosity, care, and a project that can be completed in about fifteen-to-twenty minutes.

Interested in hosting a makerspace?

The breadth and richness of the cultures represented at Illuminate will depend on who steps forward to share them. That’s why your ideas, creativity, and participation matter so much. Whether through a classroom project, a student-led station, a performance, or a collaboration with a family, your involvement will help shape this celebration.
